Its a largish on the spot study of the bruntingthorpe vulcan. Vulcans were huge, 4 engined long range cold war nuclear attack bombers, the final product of Britain's 'V' bomber force of the 50's and 60's. As a child I remember them circling over the school playing fields. Huge triangles, flying impossibly slowly, shaking windows for miles...
In 1982, after 25 years success in dropping nothing in anger and within two months of their retirement date, they were hastly modified to (conventionally) bomb the Argentinian forces occupying the Falklands.
Finally retired over ten years ago by the RAF, Bruntingthorpe hosts a determined team, who bought one! They have taken on the considerable logistical, financial and administritive task of flying it again; to shake windows for just a few more years...
