Ian Naylor has worked in a wide range of materials, and in the last two years has produced, or is currently involved commissions using oil (on canvas), wood carving, cardboard, light, perspex, stone, welded steel concrete, printing and digital media.
Recent commissions have also demanded various creative approaches' from Naylor. Tate 10 asked for his response to an artist - Lucien Freud. The parade train, mosiac and drawing station demanded the inclusive workshop participation of others.
The teaching circle for Walton-on-the-Hillon and Sundial for Brock hill set structural challenges, not least of which was how to build them away from public roads, power and water.
The spring and summer of 2003 has seen the culmination of his Artist in Resident at the RAF Museum, Cosford with his 'Inside Out' show. Mainly drawings, this showed the museum visitors otherwise unobtainable views if the inside many of the aircraft. Obviously, Ian couldn't walk away from the faces of some of the volunteers from there either, and drew portraits of a couple of rear gunners and an Arnhem vet.
